Welcome to the official website of the
Medical Missionaries of Mary

Sister Rosalinda Gonzales from Philippines while on mission in TanzaniaFor 70 years, the Medical Missionaries of Mary have been committed to healing and development in a way that is locally appropriate and cost-effective. Our special concern is care of mothers and their infants.

As missionaries, we are active contemplatives, qualified in health-related professions.

While we are a moden religious Congregation, our roots are in the ancient tradition of Saint Benedict. Our priority is to go to places of great need. We remain there until the local people can take over responsibility for their healthcare themselves.

Through our website we tell the story of why, where and how we do this.

MORE ABOUT MMM | MISSION STATEMENT | HOW YOU CAN HELP

Forty years ago, on July 2, our Sisters were forced to leave St. Mary's Hospital, Urua Akpan, Nigeria, during the Biafra War. Sister Pauline Dean was the doctor in charge of the Hospital at the time, and kept a Diary of events during the previous six months. The 40-page Diary can be downloaded here (pdf, 375 KB). When the war ended we were able to re-open St. Mary's Hospital and are still here.

 Plants that Cure
